No microphone needed if you have a Mac Book....just hit the voice button when the Garage Band loads. It's under "New Project." Once you're in, hit record and you'll be good to go! :)
Did you do one story on a 80min cd? I've wanted to do this, but didn't want to waste a whole CD for one story. Toward the end of the year, I record all of the students and they each take a cd home for the summer. They love listening to their former classmates. They are always surprised that I read the last story. =)
I am SO excited to try this. I used to do this with cassette tapes (I know!) but I never thought about this. I just asked my husband why he didn't suggest this (he was the one who encouraged me to use an iPod in the classroom YEARS ago) and he just said, "Please do this when I'm not home." Ha!!!! I tend to go overboard with voices when I read out loud. One other thing I've done with my listening center that you may want to try (using Garage Band) is following directions. I copied pages of coloring books and/or clip art designs and recorded myself on tape giving directions. For example, "Color the flower red. Color the sun yellow. Color the boy's shirt green." Etc. I always dictated simple sentences for my first graders to write on the back (to take it to the next level!). In the next couple of weeks, I'll put my Haunted House page in the listening center. It's a clip art of a Haunted House and I tell them which objects to draw in which windows. (a bat in window one, a pumpkin in window two, etc.) They are always a HUGE hit. Thank you so much for sharing!! A Teeny Tiny Teacher
I cannot wait to try this! Thank you for the great idea!!! Now do we need a microphone to be able to record our voice?
