Behavior log & a Sneak Peek

Hey ya'll. I recently finished my new behavior system and love it. It is hanging nicely in my room and I think it will be a great thing for my kinders next year. However, I got to wondering - How am I going to record my students' behavior for parents to see? Last year, I just "flipped cards" and gave students a stamp on their calendar for good behavior. If a student turned a card, I would physically write the reason for each child on that specific day. I am looking for something a little easier for me and came up with a behavior log that I think will work well with my new clothespin chart. I have designed it so it will be copied front/back and be used for a month at a time.

Here is my chart:
Click below to grab the corresponding log. I would appreciate feedback, ideas, changes, etc. Those of you that do use this system: what do you use? Is there a better/easier way? Let me know! :)
How many of you all use this clip chart? It's very similar...just different wording.
Well, if you do...I made a log for it, too! Just click the image to grab from google docs.
Typically I keep my students' calendars (or in this case, behavior logs) in their communication folder. I stick it in the left hand side, that says 'Return to School,' and it will stay there for a month.
When the month is up, I remove the calendar...file it away...and replace it with a new one. By filing my students' behavior logs, I am able to pull them for parent/teacher conferences and discuss their progress easily with parents. Whatcha think? Leave me your thoughts, please! I love reading your comments.

P.S. I went to Kohl's yesterday and nearly had a stroke! I spent wayyyy too much money but OMG are the Skippyjon plush adorable! hee hee He's looking mighty cute in my library center. Here's a sneak peek of library. My classroom is certainly coming along!

  7. Erin, I'm glad you saw my comment and racked up! I love, love, love your classroom library. Mine is still a work in progress. I think I'll get my woodworking dad to make a little bench for my stuffed book buddies to sit on the top shelf. I noticed on the media release that you linked for Kohl's re the Skippyjon line that there are books that are only available online. Really...they're such a bargain, afterall look how much we would spend for a hardback in a dustjacket at the bookstore. And then an extra $5 for a good cause and a bonus stuffed animal. You could overspend in so many worse ways!

  12. I love using the clip chart. It really makes a difference in the children's behavior. Your daily report looks great. I created one, also, but mine goes for the whole month. You are welcome to check it out here: http://teachingwithloveandlaughter.blogspot.com/2012/06/clip-chart-behavior-management-plan.html

I am going to use your charts. I'm working on making my clip charts but with a polka dot background. I'll post it on my blog when I finish and link back to yours!

  15. I went to Kohls today and bought all the SkippyJon JOnes books and the stuffed animal. I love your library area. I'm hoping to change mine up this year. But I'm trying to avoid my classroom until after the fourth of July. I've got to get back into create mode.

  23. I love your library! We aren't allowed to have a lot of things in our rooms, so I always get jealous when I see a library that kids can actually use.
I am actually going to start using the clip chart this year and we are trying to get our whole school on board, for consistency's sake.
These behavior logs will be a huge help!

    Thanks again.

  26. Hi. I just found your blog and I am having fun looking around. I used the behavior chart last year and I really loved it. I put the week's behavior at the bottom of my weekly newsletter and replaced it every week. If I use your behavior chart it could give me more room for my newsletter. Hmmm..

You're the second person to mention Skippyjon Jones so I am going to Kohl's today in hopes they have one! Yay!

  29. I love, love, love this type of clip chart. My BIG question for anyone is, how do I keep track for the purpose of a conduct grade? In past years I would subtract 1point for each rule broken. Then, at the end of the quarter I would have my points to assign a letter grade for the report cards. I hate having to give a letter grade for conduct, but that's a whole 'nother story! I want my kiddos to improve behavior so they can move their clip back up, but how do I make it work when I'm required to give a conduct grade to parents??? Help!
    Thanks,
    Elyse

  30. What a great idea to document behavior in a quick and easy way! I will be job sharing next year and this will be perfect for us to keep a record of our students behavior for both of us to see! Thanks for sharing!
